# How to use your own domain as your link in bio

> The best link in any bio is your own name: yourname.com. Here’s why, the two ways to set it up, and how to swap it into every app without breaking anything.

**Short answer:** Buy a domain with your name, then either point it at a website (so yourname.com shows your page) or forward it to the page you already use. Then put yourname.com in your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X bios. Bounley does the first way for you with Premium: your site runs on your own domain, with an email address at it to match.

## Why your own domain beats a tool’s address

- **It reads as a brand.** yourname.com looks like a business; tool.com/yourname looks like a tool.

- **It never has to change.** Switch services and you point the domain somewhere new. Every bio, business card, QR code and old caption keeps working.

- **It gives you email.** The same domain gives you you@yourname.com, the address brands and clients take seriously.

- **It’s easy to say.** “Find me at yourname.com” works at the end of a video, on a poster and out loud.

## Step 1: get the domain

Look for yourname.com first. If it’s taken, try a short variation or another ending; the [domain name ideas tool](https://bounley.com/tools/domain-name-ideas) shows which are free for your name, and [how to choose a domain name](https://bounley.com/guides/personal-brand-domain-name) covers what to do when yours is gone. A .com usually costs around $10 to $20 a year; check the renewal price as well as the first year.

## Step 2: make it show something

There are two ways, and you can start with either:

1. **Put a website on it.** yourname.com shows your page directly, and the address stays in the browser bar. This is the stronger option: it’s what search engines index under your name, and it’s what an email address at the domain is built around. With Bounley Premium, connect a domain you own (Bounley shows exactly which records to add) or get one through Bounley and every record is put in for you.

2. **Forward it.** Most registrars can forward a domain to any address, so yourname.com sends people to the page you use today. It’s quick, but visitors end up on the other address, and it doesn’t give you email by itself.

## Step 3: put it in every bio

- **Instagram:** Edit profile → Links → Add external link. [Full steps](https://bounley.com/guides/instagram-bio-link).

- **TikTok:** Edit profile → Website (if your account has it). [Full steps](https://bounley.com/guides/tiktok-bio-link).

- **YouTube:** YouTube Studio → Customization → Links. [Full steps](https://bounley.com/guides/youtube-channel-links).

- **X:** Edit profile → Website. [Full steps](https://bounley.com/guides/x-bio-link).

- **Everywhere else:** your email signature, business card, QR codes and the end of your videos.

## Keep your old links working

Old captions, cards and QR codes still point at your previous address. Keep that page live (or forwarding to your domain) for a while, so nobody who finds an old link hits a dead end.

## Questions

### Does Instagram allow a custom domain in your bio?

Yes. Instagram accepts ordinary web addresses as links, and your own domain works like any other one, except that it reads as yours.

### How much does it cost?

A .com is typically around $10 to $20 a year. Forwarding is often included by the registrar; a website and email on the domain depend on the service you use.

### Can I change what my domain shows later?

Yes. That’s the point of owning it: point it at a new site or service whenever you like, and the address in all your bios stays the same.
