# Personal email domain: how to get an email address with your name

> An email address at your own name, like jess@jessmoreno.com, is the one address you never have to change: not when you change jobs, not when you change email apps, not when a free provider changes its rules.

**Short answer:** A personal email domain is a domain with your name (yourname.com) used for email, so your address is firstname@yourname.com. Buy the domain, connect an email service to it, and add the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Bounley Premium does it in one place: get the domain through Bounley or connect your own, and your inbox, signature and site are set up on it, with every address at the domain arriving in one inbox.

## What a personal email domain is

It’s a domain with your name that you use for email (and usually a website too). Instead of jessmoreno2003@gmail.com, your address is **jess@jessmoreno.com**. You own the domain, so the address goes wherever you go: change email providers and it stays exactly the same.

## Why people get one

- **It never changes.** School, work and free addresses come and go; this one is yours for as long as you renew the domain.

- **It looks established.** On a résumé, a pitch or an invoice it says you take your work seriously.

- **It matches your website.** jessmoreno.com shows your site; jess@jessmoreno.com reaches you.

- **It’s yours to set up.** Add hello@ or bookings@ later without opening new accounts anywhere.

## Address formats that work

| Format | Example | Good when |
| --- | --- | --- |
| first@firstlast.com | jess@jessmoreno.com | The classic; short and memorable |
| hi@ or hello@ | hi@jessmoreno.com | You want it friendly |
| contact@ | contact@jessmoreno.com | You want one neutral public address |
| first.last@ on a short domain | jess.moreno@jm.studio | Your full name as a domain is taken |

## If yourname.com is taken

- Try another ending: .co, .me, .studio or your country’s (.co.uk, .ca).

- Add a word: jessmorenostudio.com, hellojessmoreno.com, jessmoreno.design.

- Use your initials or your handle if people already know you by it.

## Setting it up yourself

1. **Buy the domain** at a registrar. Turn on auto-renew: a lapsed domain can be bought by someone else, along with your email.

2. **Pick an email service** that hosts mail for your own domain (usually paid per mailbox each month).

3. **Add the DNS records** it gives you: MX so mail arrives, SPF and DKIM so it’s trusted, DMARC so others can’t send as you.

4. **Test it**: send to and from a free address and check nothing lands in spam.

## With Bounley

Bounley is the platform built for personal brands, so your personal email domain comes with the website it shows. With Premium, get the domain through Bounley (every record is put in for you) or connect one you own. Your inbox is inside Bounley at contact@yourname.com to start; change it to your first name in Mail settings. Mail to any address at your domain arrives in the same inbox, replies go out from the address they were sent to, and your signature, card and site all carry the same name.

## Questions

### How much does a personal email domain cost?

The domain is usually around $10 to $20 a year for a .com, plus whatever your email service charges. Some endings cost more.

### Can I get a personal email domain for free?

Not really: you have to own the domain, which costs money each year. [What free options give you](https://bounley.com/guides/free-professional-email).

### Can I keep reading it in Gmail?

Google is removing the free ways to fetch and send other addresses in Gmail during 2026 and early 2027. [What still works](https://bounley.com/guides/gmail-with-your-own-domain).
