The profile
- Username and name: your real name or the handle you use everywhere, so people can find you on other apps.
- Bio: about 80 characters. What you post and who it’s for: “Food photos you can take on a phone. New tip every day.”
- Link: TikTok’s Website field appears for many personal accounts at around 1,000 followers. Until then, write your address in your bio. How to add a link to your TikTok bio.
- Pinned videos: pin three: one that shows who you are, one of your best tips, one with proof (a result, a review, a before and after).
Hooks: the first second decides
Most people decide in the first second whether to keep watching. Start with the most interesting thing, not an introduction:
- “Three mistakes that make phone food photos look cheap.”
- “I asked 50 brands why they ignore creator emails.”
- “This is what a $40 setup looks like next to a $4,000 one.”
- Show the result first, then how you got there.
Series beat one-offs
A numbered series (“Day 12 of building my brand from zero”, “Editing tip #34”) gives people a reason to follow instead of just watching. It also makes your brand easy to describe: you’re “the person who does the daily editing tips”. Pick one series inside each of your two or three topics.
What to post
- Teach one thing in under 60 seconds.
- Show the process, start to finish, sped up.
- Answer comments with a video reply: free ideas, and it rewards people who comment.
- React to news in your field with your opinion.
- Behind the scenes of a real project or client.

Turning views into a brand
- Say your name and what you do in videos, so people remember who made it.
- Use the same name, photo and words everywhere, so people who look you up find the same person.
- Give them one place to go: your own site with your other accounts, your work and a way to reach you. TikTok can change; your site and domain stay yours.
- Look ready for deals: an email at your own domain and a simple media kit page.

Questions
How often should I post on TikTok?
Once a day is common among accounts that grow, but a pace you can keep matters more. Three to five good videos a week, every week, beats daily for a month and then nothing.
Why can’t I add a link to my TikTok bio?
Personal accounts have generally needed around 1,000 followers for the Website field. Write your address in your bio text until it appears.
How long should TikTok videos be?
As long as they hold attention. Short (under a minute) is easiest to start with; longer videos work when people already know you.
Do I need a niche?
You need a clear reason to follow. Two or three related topics give you that without boxing you in.
